Why "les pyros"?
Naves has attracted numerous artists for the past 20 years, from the most classic to the most orginal.
The owner, Roger Bellot, was the first to settle here. His field is "pyros" which is pyrography
and wood painting.
His big house nearby the gite, decorated from ceiling to floor by his pyros, is a museum of fantasy,
symbolism and colours he will show you with pleasure.

"In painting, he is in the tradition of naives,
facteur Cheval
of Naves (south Ardeche) his inspiration sources go from science fiction comics to Codex Borgia through Japanese iconography :
erotical, fantastic and religious imagery he combines into meticulous and preciously
coloured settings on the most surprising substrate : plywood.
Roger Bellot has been pyrographing this material, immutably, since 20 years. His three houses, at the edge of the village,
linked by series of corridors, gangways and internal courtyards, are the natural museum
of this endogenous and tenace production : ceilings, bath tub, doors and cupboards show this odyssey of secular imagination
where gods and women, dragons and warriors, nymphs and monsters defy anachronisms et cultural fences
in imposing, muscled, and fiercely symbolic scenery."

"Naive look on cultures, naive look of all the cultures.
Man of welcome if ever, everything that reaches Roger Bellot is good.
That's why everything that comes from him is good also."
